Finding Family
by Pastor Kerry Robinson
Family......we live in a world fascinated with family.
Perhaps it is the result of a few generations of a society in which families have faced unprecedented disintegration. Perhaps it is because there is something inside all of us that yearns for relationships that offer unfiltered acceptance. Perhaps it is because of the abuse, dysfunction, and pain many of us have experienced in families of origin.
Regardless, of the cause our society is so fascinated with family that we are attempting to redefine family to include multiple forms of relationships.
Christian faith is based upon the healthy, holy relationship between Jesus, His Father and the Holy Spirit. The love, respect, integrity and wholeness of that relationship is revealed to us through the life of Jesus Christ. In spite of our brokenness and humanity, Jesus invites us into that same type of relationship and, in the process, provides a model for a new kind of family.
From Mother’s Day to Father’s Day here at East Side, we are going to explore what family can look like from this perspective.
Finding Family is a series designed to help us identify and embrace a life of love, respect, integrity and wholeness. Regardless of our past (or current) experience of family, Jesus is inviting us to experience family from His perspective.
Whether you are single, married, divorced, widowed, orphaned, fostered, childless, parenting, grand-parenting, old, young or whatever mixture of the above, I want to invite you to join us over these next few weeks. I also want to encourage you to look around and listen closely to your family and friends. Engage them in conversation and invite them to join us on the journey of Finding Family.
